A Japanese Children’s Song – 童謡 “Tanabata sama” (たなばたさま)

Orihime and Hikoboshi

In my other blog I have written about Tanabata Festival. At this blog I introduce a song to sing for Tanabata. Today’s Japanese Children’s Song is called [Tanabata sama]

Tanabata Sama /Dear Tanabata

This song is very simple and easy to sing with your children.

First, let me explain some words.

Words

Sasa no ha – a bamboo leaf

sara sara – shaking gently

ohoshi sama – stars in polite way

Kira kira – twinkling

Kin – gold

Gin – silver

Sunago – an old way of saying [sand]

Go shiki – Five colors

Tanzaku – a strip or paper written wishes

Sora – sky

Tanabata sama (the Star festival)

I have found a video with English lyris and Japanese hiragana.

Japanese lyric in Romaji

Since I have found the song with English lyric I just write Japanese Lyric in Romaji so that you can practice!

1. Sasa no ha sara sara
Nokiba ni yureru
Ohoshi sama kira kira
Kin gin sunago
2. Goshiki no tanzaku
Watashi ga kaita
Ohoshi sama kira kira
Sora kara miteru

Now let’s sing!

Hope you will enjoy this song with your children and be able to learn some Japanese words! Please let me know if you enjoyed it or not!

THANK YOU Arigato
