Kamen Buyo Kai (Masquerade ball)

The Sunday J-pop time again!

Today’s song is called [Kamen Buyo Kai] by Shonentai from 80’s.

Kamen Buyo Kai (仮面舞踊会) was the Shonentai’s debut song. When these three boys appeared on TV for a first time to sing and dance everyone was amazed. 　It was a great sensation. They were extremely popular. The quality of their dance was particularly high. They went to New York to have received Micheal Peters’s guidance who was a choreographer.

The reason why I have decided to introduce today is that in Reiwa ara in Japan, new Japanese generation have seemed to find 80’s Japanese songs amazing because to them it is totally new sounds. In particular the Shonentai started gaining their popularity again. It has been creating a furor [great sensation] .

The below You Tube video shows how the music TV programs were on-air at that time. The MC said that Kamen buyo kai (仮面舞踊会) was 1st place for 5 consecutive weeks.
