A Japanese Traditional Background Music for A New Year – Haru no Umi (春の海)/Spring Sea

(春の海)Spring Sea composed by Michio Miyagi

Every new year we hear musicians play “Spring Sea (Haru no Umi). And we all feel that the new year has surely came. Almost certainly we can not welcome a new year without this music. An combination of two Japanese traditional music instruments, a Japanese Koto and Shakuhachi , produces wonderful peaceful sound. Hope you appreciate this.

A koto(琴)is a Japanese plucked half-tube zither instrument, and the national instrument of Japan.

shakuhachi  (尺八))is a Japanese and ancient Chinese longitudinal, end-blown flute that is made of bamboo.

Michio Miyagi was a Japanese musician, famous for his Koto playing. He was born in Kobe. He lost his sight in 1902, when he was 8 years old, and started his study in koto under the guidance of Nakajima Kengyo II, dedicating the rest of his life to the instrument. Wikipedia
